The Nikita Mihalkov’s film depicts one whole day from the Stalinist repression and presents the artist in a lot of hypostases: of producer, director, co-script writer and leading part actor. “
“Naked truth without love is a lie. Happy people did exist in those days, because they loved each other. It is always easy to accuse somebody in hindsight.” Mihalkov said, speaking about this movie “Deceitful Sun.” Mihalkov’s entire creation is imbued with hope and a humanitarian attitude towards life. B-FEST saw Nikita Mihalkov’s two other movies being screened at the festival; the films were produced at Mihalkov’s own studio, “Trite”, founded in the 80s. The movies are “The Barber of Siberia” directed by Mihalkov himself and the “State Councillor” featuring Mihalkov also as an actor. On Sunday Mihalkov gave a class at a Master’s program with the topic: “The Director’s double hypostasis: on and outside the film set.”
Students, directors and journalists attending the class were offered an insight into the artist’s creative workshop, as Mihalkov’s career spans more than 4 decades. You need to learn to understand to be a good director. Yet to be an artist you need to stay on your toes and maybe God will kiss you on the back of the neck” Mihalkov thinks. The great Russian director also said Russian cinematography has preserved its quality standards even after the 90s, and continues to be inspired by the school founded by its great directors. Speaking about the Romanian cinema, Mihalkov said he was impressed by young film director Catalin Mitulescu’s talent, for whom he foresaw a brilliant future. The two met at the Cannes Film Festival, where the Russian director hailed Mitulescu’s short-reel film, as a president of the jury. Mitulescu’s film, “Traffic” was awarded the highest distinction at the Festival. Nikita Mihalkov opened the B-FEST International Film Festival. Another great name of the Russian cinema will close the Festival, film director Andrei Koncealovski, Nikita Mihalkov’s brother. This is Koncealovski’s second visit to Romania where he will give a workshop and present two of his movies.
