The Palme d’Or winner at Cannes this year, the film of Romanian director Cristian Mungiu “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” is going to be premiered in Bucharest on September the 14th. Then, the film will be touring 35 towns, benefiting from a caravan organised with support from the National Centre of Cinematography which will stop in the villages having no cinema. To director Mungiu this tour will tell him whether Romanians are less interested in going to watch a film because of the shortage of cinemas or there are other reasons behind this phenomenon. In may cases the newly privatised cinemas have been given another destination.
So, if the tour of the film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” turns out to be a success, the director hopes to convince businessmen that investing in cinemas is a good business decision. Cristian Mungiu will not be present at the projection of his film in all towns toured, because he has to honour several invitations from abroad. He will be awarded the FIPRESCI Grand Prix by the International Film Critics’ Federation at the opening gala of the San Sebastian festival on September the 20th. As to the mixed reaction given to his film, director Cristian Mungiu says that “any kind of reaction” is important to him.

Let us also mention that Mungiu’s film has been nominated by Romania for the Oscar for the best foreign film and has entered the race of qualification for the European Film Prizes.
