“ANONIMUL” INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (13.08.07) |
(2007-08-13) |
Last updated: 2007-08-14 14:40 EET |
Starting August 13th, until the 19th, the “Anonimul” International Film Festival will unfold in the town of Sfantu Gheorghe, in the wonderful natural setting of the Danube Delta, where the Danube ends its journey flowing into the Black Sea through the Sf. Gheorghe arm. This 4th edition of the festival has two special guests: British Ken Loach and Romanian Cristian Mungiu.
British director Ken Loach’s film “The Wind that Shakes the Barley”, Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Festival in 2006, opened last year’s edition of the Festival. This year Loach is participating with another film: “Tickets”, which he directed, together with Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami and Italian Ermanno Olmi. As is customary on such occasions, after the screening, Ken Loach will take questions from the audience.
Romanian director Cristian Mungiu will also be answering the audience’s questions, as on Wednesday, together with his team, he will attend the screening of his film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”, this year’s winner of the Palme d’Or award in Cannes.
Nine films will be screened in this year’s official section in Sf. Gheorghe, one of them being the late Romanian director Cristian Nemescu’s film “California Dreamin’”. The other films, competing for a 10,000 euros award, are: “Mon frere se marie” (Switzerland), directed by Jean-Stephane Bron, “Interview” (the US) directed by Steve Buscemi, "Flanders" (France), directed by Bruno Dumont, "Vier Minuten" (Germany), directed by Chris Kraus, "Mio fratello e figlio unico" (Italy), directed by Daniele Luchetti, "Tuya' Marriage" (China), directed by Quanan Wang, "London Brighton" (Great Britain), directed by Paul Andrew Williams, and "The Banishment" (Russia), directed by Andrei Zviaghintsev.
The other two sections of the festival include 36 fiction short reels and 18 animation films.
The out-of-competition programme, opened by the documentary called “An Inconvenient Truth”, presented by former US Vice-Presdient Al Gore, is dedicated to major issues that mankind is currently confronted with like global warming, climate change, water and medicine shortage and the devastating effects of wars.
We also recall that another film festival, the one held in Locarno, Switzerland, has recently designated its winners. One of them is a young Romanian director, Adrian Sitaru, who won the Grand Prize in the short reels section, with his film entitled “Waves”.
