On Friday, he will be received by president Traian Basescu and will have talks with prime minister Victor Ponta, foreign minister Titus Corlatean and defence minister Mircea Dusa. Mr Rasmussen will also receive the Doctor Honoris Causa title from the University of Bucharest. In an interview to our correspondent in Brussels, he said Romania’s participation in Afghanistan is significant and that he hopes this country will also be able to take part in and contribute to the future mission providing support and assistance to the Afghan troops, a mission to be conducted by NATO after the withdrawal of the international troops from Afghanistan at the end of 2014.

The Romanian foreign ministry has expressed its deep regret over the London attack in which a British soldier was killed and described the incident as a barbarian act whose circumstances must be cleared as soon as possible, said the ministry’s spokeswoman Brandusa Predescu on Thursday. British prime minister David Cameron said on Thursday that the killing of a British soldier in broad daylight in London is not only an attack on Britain, but a betrayal of Islam and the Islamic communities in this country. A British soldier was brutally killed on Wednesday near army barracks in London by two armed men carrying knives and chanting Islamist slogans. According to the authorities there is strong indication that this was a terrorist attack.
