Romania’s government backs the implementation of the Nabucco project and is et to undertake joint work with all companies investing in that project, the Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has announced today, at the meeting of the Nabucco Consortium. In turn, Nabucoo’s executive manager Reinhard Mitschek specified that the decision to place an investment for the development of the project will be taken in 2013, while the construction of the pipeline will begin in 2015. Attending the meeting are top-ranking officials from Romania, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey. The present meeting marks the progress made in the development of Nabucco – a project meant to provide a high safety degree for the energy market, which has been on a growing trend in Central and South eastern Europe. The Nabucco pipeline aims at accessing natural gas from Azerbaijan and its transportation on the European market, significantly reducing the European Union’s energy dependency on Russia.
The Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean in Brussels today takes part in the meeting of the European Union’s general Affairs Council. High of the Council’s agenda are the European Union’s multi annual financial framework for 2014 – 1020, as well as the preparation of the European Council’s meeting on May the 22nd, where representing Romania will be the country’s Prime Minister Victor Ponta. According to the Romanian Foreign Ministry in Bucharest. the European Union’s foreign ministers will hold talks on the European Council’s conclusions draft , mainly targeting the energy sector and the fiscal policy. At the European Council’s meeting, the Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta will present the main objectives of his mandate, which include placing Romania’s policy in line with the European average regarding the renewable energies, providing energy interconnection at regional level and protecting the vulnerable energy consumer.
Romania between July the 3rd and the 7th will be hosting the meeting of the World Tourism Organization, whose rotating presidency Romania holds at present, the acting minister for the SMEs, business environment and tourism Maria Grapini has announced in Bucharest today. The event’s agenda includes a trip to the Danube Delta, Europe’s only biosphere reserve, and another trip to Transylvania. Romania has been a founding member state of the World Tourism Organization since 1975. The WTO is a United Nations Agency, coordinating tourism at world level. At present the WTO includes 155 member states with full rights.
The US Secretary of State John Kerry is on Oman today, which is the first leg of a Middle-East tour, aimed at re-launching the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and promoting a project on organizing an international conference on Syria. Oman is an Arab country that has close ties with Syria’s main ally, Iran. On Wednesday Kerry will be in Jordan, while Thursday and Friday he will visit Israel and the Palestinian territories.
