The Royal House of Romania on Sunday awarded the Nihil sine Deo medal to the Romanian Radio Broadcasting corporation, on its 85th anniversary and for the services provided to Romanian audiences across the globe. The award was handed over by her royal highness, crown princess Margaret, on behalf of his father Michael. In 85 years, Radio Romania has contributed to building national identity, said Prince Radu of Romania, also stating that among other things, Radi ois a means of strenghening both the state and the Romanian nation. Established in 2009, Nihil sine deo is granted for outstanding contributions to the social, scientific, educational, cultural, spiritual, economic, political and military fields. On Saturday, the Radio Hall was the venue for the first royal concert hosted by Radio Romania after 1947, the year when king Michael was forced to abdicate.

The Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean is on a formal two day visit to Stockholm, where he will meet his counterpart Carl Bildt, the Defense Minister Karin Enstrom and the Minister for European Affairs and Democracy, Birgitta Ohlsoon. According to a communiqué issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Titus Corlatean will inaugurate the Swedish-Romanian Chamber of Business and will give a speech at the International Relations Institute in Stockholm. The visit is aimed at boosting bilateral relations and diplomatic dialogue, against an intensification of debates on European and international issues.

The Romanian Minister of the Economy, Varujan Vosganian, is paying a formal three day visit to Poland, at the invitation of his counterpart Janusz Piechocinski. The talks will focus on new projects under the Romania – Poland strategic partnership and on mutual investment projects. The Romanian official will also participate in the informal meeting of the line ministers of the Visegrad countries, the Check Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, which will also be attended by Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Croatia. Also, he will present at the European Economic Congress in Katowice, Romania’s development prospects and its attractiveness as investment destination and trade partner.


The 43rd Sibiu Jazz Festival starts today in the historical centre of Sibiu, in central Romania, with the parade of a German band, organizers have announced. For a week, over 100 musicians from Cuba, Belgium, France, Italy, Israel, Spain, Poland and Hungary will perform on the festival’s stage. This is a unique event in Romania, given its long life and the impressive number of celebrities that have participated since the first edition. It is the oldest such festival in Romania and one of the oldest in the world, and that is why Sibiu is dubbed Romania’s capital of Jazz.
