Romania is ranked 8th in a classification of most corrupt countries in the EU, 61% of the Romanian businesspeople saying that they usually give bribe to obtain a contract – shows a study made by the Ernst&Young professional service firm. 3 459 people holding leading positions within corporations from 36 states were interviewed for the survey, 20 of the countries being EU members. Of the EU states Slovenia seems to be the most corrupt, 96% of the businesspeople interviewed admitting to giving bribe. Following it are Greece and Slovakia with 84% and the Czech Republic with 73%. The least corrupt countries are, according to the survey, Finland and Sweden, where only 12% of the respondents admitted to giving bribe.

Prince Edward of Great Britain and princess Sofia will pay an official visit to Romania between June 24th and 26th – the Embassy of Great Britain to Bucharest announced on Wednesday. The two royal highnesses will take part in the events marking 75 years since the setting up of the British Council in Romania. Prince Edward, a count of Wessex and brother of Prince Charles of Wales, is the 3rd son of Queen Elisabeth II. This is Prince Edward’s first visit to Romania. His brother Prince Charles has frequently visited Romania, where he holds property in the region of Transylvania.

Romania’s National Bank downgraded its inflation forecast for the end of this year from 3.5% to 3.2%, according to the most recent statement made by Governor Mugur Isarescu. He said that the forecast has been downgraded from the one in February even though there are no changes in the calendar for indexing administrated prices. The forecast for the end of 2014 was adjusted upwards by 0.1%, reaching 3.3%.
