Romania and Bulgaria should cooperate in the ensuing period of time to reach their common objectives at European level, among which Schengen accession and the fight against corruption. The statement was made by Romanian PM, Social Democrat Victor Ponta, on Sunday, in Ruse, where he had been invited to participate in an electoral meeting of the Bulgarian Socialists. In turn, the president of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Serghei Stanishev, who is also president of the Party of European Socialists (PES), has called for stepping up procedures to inaugurate the new bridge over the Danube, which links Vidin (in Bulgaria) to Calafat (in Romania). The Romanian government has called on parliament to ratify the agreement between Romania and Bulgaria on setting up a joint company to administer the new bridge.
Romanian minister for the environment and climate change, Rovana Plumb, is today signing a financing contract for the project “The Protection and Rehabilitation of the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea Coast, in the Constanta and Eforie North area”. The value of the project exceeds 170 million Euros, and it will mostly be covered by non-reimbursable funding from the Cohesion Fund. The project includes protection measures against the risk of erosion, on a 7 km long strip of the beach, in five priority areas in the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea Coast.
Romania’s National History Museum based in Bucharest is hosting, between April the 30th and August the 1st, a special exhibition entitled “China’s Treasures”. Romania is the first Central and East European country to host such an exhibition. Exceptionally valuable artefacts, millennia-old Neolithic vases, bronze vases, cultural items related to the Silk Road and artefacts depicting China’s modern history are put on show. Some of the objects presented in Romania for the first time will be the famous warriors of the so-called Terracotta Army, which were part of the funerary inventory of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, pieces belonging to the famous archaeological site in Xi'an, as well as porcelain items belonging to the Chinese Imperial Family.
Orthodox and Greek-Catholic Christians the world over, Romania included are celebrating, as of today, the Passion Week. They are preparing for the biggest festival and holyday of the Christian world, Easter. Special masses are given every evening until Friday, to highlight the dramatic moments of our Lord Jesus Christ’s passions and supreme sacrifice for people’s salvation.
