Romania’s prime minister Victor Ponta, who also acts of interim justice minister, on Thursday said he proposed Robert Cazanciuc for the position of justice minister. Cazanciuc, aged 41, currently works as a secretary general within the Foreign Ministry, and as a seconded prosecutor to the Public Ministry. Following his nomination, he tendered his resignation from magistracy, a resignation accepted by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The former justice minister, Mona Pivniceru, resigned last month after being appointed a judge at the Constitutional Court.
On the 17th of April, the government will call for vote of confidence in Parliament on the draft law on compensations for the buildings nationalized by the communist regime, the joint permanent bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate decided on Thursday. The main provisions of the draft law refer to the restitution of property in kind, where possible, or financial compensation, in the form of annual tranches, as well as to the taxation of litigious rights by 85%. Prime minister Victor Ponta said the drafting of the law took into consideration the recommendations of the European Court of Human Rights to prevent the Romanian for paying huge sums of money for failure to respect a number of fundamental rights.
The Madrigal national chamber choir, a symbol on the Romanian music scene, on Thursday celebrated its 50th anniversary.
