After it joined NATO in 2004, Romania received the guarantee of its national security, Romanian Defence Minister Mircea Dusa said on the occasion of NATO Day in Bucharest. We recall that as a fully-fledged NATO member, Romania has actively got involved in the alliance’s military missions, including in operation theatres like Iraq and Afghanistan. In recognition to its efforts, in 2008 Bucharest was entrusted the organization of a NATO summit, considered one of the most important in the history of the Alliance.

Romania’s embassy in North Korea will continue its activity, the Romanian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday. According to the same sources the ministry is closely monitoring the situation in region, permanently evaluating the safety of its diplomatic mission. In another development, the USA has postponed a ballistic-missile test due next week, as well as a major military summit in South Korea in a bid to ease tensions in the Peninsula. The regime in Pyongyang has already deployed two missiles, which can reach Japan and a US territory in the Pacific. The North Korean threats came following the latest UN-adopted sanctions and in the context of the joint military drills of the United States and South Korea.

Attending the International Congress of the Romanian Journalists, which ended in Donji Milanovac, Serbia, on Sunday, the minister for the Romanians all over the world, Cristian David voiced optimism concerning a flexible dialogue of the Serb authorities with the ethnic Romanians in northeastern Serbia. The Romanian official said that such an attitude is conducive to avoiding any tension in the bilateral relations between Romania and Serbia and to a common approach of the minorities issue. The Congress brought together roughly 100 journalists from Serbia, Hungary the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Italy and Romania.
