Romania’s economic growth last year exceeded initial estimations thanks to good results in sectors like industry and trade, according to provisional data released by the National Statistics Institute. Thus, the growth rate last year was 0.7%, which is considerably more than the originally estimated 0.3%. According to the Statistics Institute, Romania’s economy accounted for almost 590 billion lei last year, the equivalent of 132 billion euros.
Shares of the Transgaz natural gas transportation company are being traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange Market for nine days, starting today, as the state is selling its 15% stake in holds in the company. That might bring around 68 to 90 million euros to the state budget. Transgaz is the only technical operator of the domestic natural gas transmission system in Romania. In 2012 the company’s turnover stood at 1.328 billion lei or 295 million euros while its net profit stood at 329 million lei or 73 million euros.
The 22nd edition of the DaKINO film festival is being held in Bucharest until Sunday. As many as 35 short films, from 15 countries, are part of the competition. Organisers are inviting film lovers to choose from a series of productions that have won numerous awards in prestigious festivals, such as the Berlin and Cannes festivals. The DaKIDS section will be introduced in this year’s edition, featuring short films and workshops for children. On Friday, the Night of the AdEaters will be held, as part of the festival.
