The co-payment system for hospitalised patients with medical insurance comes into force on Monday in Romania. According to the health minister Eugen Nicolaescu, this system is meant to discourage what he described as “fictitious” hospitalisation. Under the new system, patients have to pay a single fee of 5-10 lei (around 1.2 euros) when admitted to or discharged from hospital. Chronic patients who are part of national health programme, children under 18, pregnant women and women who have recently given birth, as well as pensioners living on a low income, people with disabilities and emergency cases are exempt from this fee.
The right-wing Liberal Democratic Party, the main opposition force in Romania, says it will file a simple motion of no-confidence in Parliament over the situation in the milk industry. The Liberal Democrats have accused the ruling centre-left Social Liberal Union of “incompetence and negligence” in managing the crisis sparked by the discovery of a toxin at several milk farms in Romania. The scandal that broke out as a result three weeks ago created panic among consumers and led to big losses for producers.
Natural gas exports from Romania to EU states is allowed, provided there exists physical interconnection between the delivery systems. The Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority has issued a regulation in this respect, following the European Commission’s start of infringement procedures against Romania last year for failure to meet community obligations in the natural gas sector. The new regulation does not exclude or ban natural gas trade with countries outside the community area, including the Republic of Moldova.
