BOOKFEST 2010 09/06/2010
(2010-06-09)
Last updated: 2010-06-10 16:37 EET
Organizers put forth a series of events entitled ‘’Connections’’ which for five days in a row will bring together authors, publishers, translators, literary agents, critics, printers and librarians. These events are aimed at introducing the public to potential means of helping culture survive, during times of crisis. Hoping to set up an increasingly vast international tradition, the Publishers’ Association in Romania has decided that Spain be the guest of the fair.

This option took into account the value of literary and artistic works, the numerous translations of Spanish authors, both classical and contemporary that have been published in Romania, as well as the Romanian authors published in Spain. During the event, round tables will be organized featuring Spanish and Romanian novelists, playwrights, and translators.

They will present their narrative experiences, in order for the public to have an accurate grasp of vision differences between Romanian and Spanish writers. The series of music shows will open with a flamenco recital, guitar and percussion, performed by Romanian artists. Culture aficionados can also attend a panel discussion entitled ‘’Avant-garde and tradition in contemporary playwriting’’, while book and film lovers are invited to a talk on ‘’Film and literature. From the novel to the movie script.’’ Other talks will center on themes such as cultural journalism and literature of the future of e-books.

On the other hand, children are also catered for at this year’s Bookfest edition.’ They will have their own reading, playing and creativity space, at the Young readers’ Club. They can also take part in library readings and onstage readings, drawing and creativity workshops, children’s theatre, photo exhibitions and contests.

An area called ‘’The Fair’s Basket’’ will gather donated books that will be distributed to Romanian communities in Serbia and Bulgaria. Bookfest 2010 is taking place under the patronage of the Romanian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Cervantes Institute and the Spanish embassy in Bucharest.
