TIFF is the festival where many notable Romanian films are screened for the first time. These include works from the new age of Romanian cinematography such as Cristi Puiu's “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”, Corneliu Porumboiu's “12:08 East of Bucharest”, Catalin Mitulescu's “The Way I Spent the End of the World”, Radu Muntean's “The Paper will be Blue”, Cristian Nemescu's “California Dreamin'”, as well as Cristian Mungiu's 2007 Palm d'Or winner “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days”.

The festival is a high-class cultural event that celebrates fresh, imaginative views. The most anticipated moment of the 2010 edition, held between May 28th and June 6th, was the awarding of the Transylvania Trophy. The jury decided that the 10,000 Euro award be granted to “Mundane History”, a Thai film by Anocha Suwichakornpong, for its “unconventional structure and the eclectic use of images”.

Also a winner of the “Golden Tiger” at the Festival in Rotterdam, the film tells the story of Ake, a young man who is left paralysed following an accident, with focus on the aspects of day to day life. The award gala continued with the Trophy for Directing, accompanied by a 5,000 Euro prize, granted by the Romanian Cultural Institute to Calin Peter Netzer, director of “Medal of Honor”. Romanian actors Victor Rebengiuc and Ozana Oancea shared the prize for best performance.

The closing ceremony also saw three special moments, dedicated to great names of Romanian and European cinematography. Liviu Ciulei and Dorina Lazar, both from Romania, received the Award for Excellence and for the Life Time Achievement , respectively. This year's special guest, Wim Wender, who is president of the European Film Academy, was given the Career Award for Foreigners. The 2010 Transylvania Film Festival broke one record after another. It offered its visitors 240 films from 47 countries, and boasted an impressive number of 800 guests.
