ROMANIAN FILMS AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 12/05/2010

The documentary Nicolae Ceausescu‘s Autobiography by Andrei Ujica, one of the most subversive film makers of the year, according to the “Cahiers du Cinema” magazine, will be screened as part of the Hors Competition. After, winning the “Un Certain Regard” Prize in 2005 with “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”, the Romanian film maker Cristi Puiu was invited to sit in this competition’s jury one year later.


This year, Puiu came back in the same category with his most recent film “Aurora”, the third feature film in his career. Another Romanian filmmaker, Radu Munteanu, takes part in the ”Un Certain Regard” section with the film Tuesday after Christmas. In 2008 he participated for the first time in the Cannes Film Festival with Boogie in the “Quinzaine des Realisateurs” section.


Ionut Piturescu takes part in the “Semaine de la Critique” section with his documentary “Quest”. 13 new short films will be presented in the Romanian Short Waves programme as part of the Short Film Corner off section dedicated to short films world wide. Another production in this category is “Magda” directed by Ariana Pendiuc who at 24 is the youngest director taking part in the event. Last year, Corneliu Porumboiu won two trophies in the “Un Certain Regard” section of the Cannes Film Festival with the film “Police, Adjective”. In 2007 Cristian Mungiu won the Palme d’Or Award with his film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”.
