Other sources of discontent for teachers is the possible loss of 15,000 jobs in September and the new national education bill. Unless their demands are met, teachers threaten to go as far as freezing the school year. For the moment, their protests take the form of strikes and refusing to registering pupils’ marks. The Ombudsman says teachers are on the right side of the law and harshly criticises the government, accusing it of violating the Constitution and making decisions by emergency ordinances, although the status of emergency is not justified.

Teachers also enjoy the support of the opposition parties. The Liberals, backed by the Social Democrats, have forwarded to the Senate a simple motion called “Education – from survival to collapse”. The 41 senators who endorsed the motion believe the situation in the education system has worsened following the “lack of strategic vision, transparency and managerial capacity of the Boc government”. The motion tackles four major issues in the education system: lay offs, the budget, the unified salary scheme and the education law. Here is the Liberal senator, Puiu Haşotti:

“We are extremely discontent with the management of the education ministry, the education bill, the situation of the teaching staff, the under-funding of the education system, and the intention to lay off some 15 thousand teachers."

The Liberals are asking for the drafting of a new education bill, while the Social Democrats have already submitted to the Chamber of Deputies a draft education law drawn up together with education trade union representatives.
The education minister, Daniel Funeriu, believes the law proposed by his ministry is good but said that changes to the bill are still welcome. Daniel Funeriu:

“I absolutely agree that a law can contain small discrepancies, but since this is a draft law, I believe we can always improve it. The education ministry is currently working on finalising the law from a legal point of view. “
