Romania’s incumbent President, Traian Basescu, has won another five-year term in office, the final official results, made public by the Central Electoral Bureau on Wednesday show.
In the runoff, Basescu got 50.33% of the votes and his contender, Social Democrat leader Mircea Geoana, 49.66%. Earlier, the Romanian Central Electoral Bureau had dismissed as groundless the request made by the Social Democratic Party for a vote recount.
Also on Wednesday, the Social Democratic Party submitted its evidence to the Constitutional Court with respect to the alleged fraud committed during the ballot.
The leadership of the National Liberal Party announced they were waiting for the ruling of the Court before deciding on a prospective participation in a coalition government.
