· The Social Liberal Union in Romania, made up of the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party and the Conservative Party, won most of the local government seats, in Sunday’s local elections
· President Traian Basescu has met Prince Charles, who is currently on a private visit to Romania. The Romanian head of state has thanked the British Crown Prince for promoting Romania across the world.
In the last few years, the British royal has gotten involved in restoring several historical sites in Romania, mostly vestiges of the German Saxon communities, some of them on the UNESCO world heritage list.
· French President Francois Hollande and his party are likely to gain absolute majority in the French Parliament after they won Sunday’s first round of elections.
· European stock exchanges went up suddenly on Monday after the EU announced it endorsed the rescue plan for Spain.
· The annual inflation rate in Romania has gone down to a historic minimum of 1.79%, the National Institute for Statistics shows. Foodstuff prices stayed relatively stable in May, while non-food prices and services went up in cost by 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.
