On Monday September 21st, the 23rd day of the G. Enescu International festival, the Romanian Athenaeum hosted the concert given in the series of ”Chamber music concerts“ by the Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra and cellist Misha Maisky, conducted by Leonid Grin, which performed works by Schnittke, Saint Saens, Faure, Mendelssohn - Bartoldy.
Born in the Ukraine, Leonid Grin studied conducting and composition and for the past 25 years he has settled in the US, and has been invited to conduct various orchestras from Europe, Canada and the US. Cellist Misha Maisky is a Lithuanian by birth, but he has been living for many years in Israel. With the perfect technique, sensitivity and musicality doubled by his charisma, Misha Maisky has always won over his audience - which was also the case during Monday’s concert.
In the series “Great orchestras of the world,“ the Grand Palace Hall hosted the concert given by the Romanian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Asher Fisch, the Swingle Singers choral group and violinist Julian Rachlin. The programme included Simfonia by Luciano Berio, especially composed for this choral group, the Second concerto in G minor opus 63 for violin and orchestra by Serghei Prokofiev and “the Waltz” by Maurice Ravel. Israeli Asher Fisch together with Daniel Barenboim has been a champion for many years in promoting Wagner‘s work in his native country where it has long been banned. His approaches impress the audience thanks to their observe of the original composition style, to the vigorous gesture and expressive performance. T
he Swingle Singers started their international career in 1963, when they released the album “Sebastian Bach jazz”, which sold out shortly after its release and was re-edited several times. The founder of the group, Ward Swingle, has never thought of reaching such notoriety and longevity - more than 40 years. Winners of several Grammy Awards, the members of the Swingle Singers group amaze through their sound and perfect timing. Born in Lithuania and settled in Austria, Julian Rachlin is considered one of the best violinists of his generation. Since 1999 he has been teaching at the Vienna Conservatory and since 2000 he has been performing both on the violin and viola.
In the series “Classical music in jazz arrangements“ the Small palace Hall hosted a concert given by pianist Uri Caine together with six other musicians with a programme “Mahler and Mozart - re -imagined“. Uri Caine studied the piano and composition in the US, has been performing jazz for quite long, has got his own trio and is interested in transposing classical music into jazz sounds.
