20 years ago, in the autumn of 1989, revolutionary changes started occurring in Eastern Europe, which culminated in the bloody Romanian revolution of December that year.
The events that took place 20 years ago have profoundly changed the lives of countless millions in this area, but also those of people from other parts of the world – for instance, labour migration from Eastern to Western Europe has had a large effect on Western Europe itself.
Therefore, on Listener’s Day we invite you to write to us how your lives were touched by the groundbreaking events of 20 years ago, what you felt and how you lived through those events, and how you see them today. Or, if you’ve experienced similar social upheavals in other parts of the world, we would love you to share those feelings and memories with us.
We eagerly await your contributions, or even written accounts, through letters, by e-mail at eng@rri.ro, by fax, at 0040-21-319-0562, or you can even send us recorded materials. The best essays will be awarded a photo album documenting the Romanian Revolution, courtesy of the National News Agency Agerpres and the Agency for Governmental Strategies.
