President Traian Băsescu stated today, in a meeting with Romanian diplomats accredited abroad, that Romania seeks the European Commissioner for Agriculture position. On the last day of the annual meeting of the Romanian diplomacy, the head of stated also said that at an EU level, Romania’s priority is to ensure that that the Lisbon Treaty comes into force.

The European Investment Bank offers Romania two loans worth 140 million Euros, to support projects implemented by small and medium-sized enterprises in sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, energy, environment protection and services. Since 1990, the EIB has lent Romania some 6.6 billion Euros.


The Romanian film Francesca takes part in the 66th Venice Film Festival. The film tells the story of a kindergarten teacher, played by actress Monica Barladeanu, who decides to emigrate to Italy in search of a better life. Taking part in the Venice festival, the oldest such event in the world, are 23 feature films.

The “Golden Stag” International Music Festival starts today in Brasov, central Romania. 27 participants from 21 countries will race for the Golden Stag Trophy, worth 10 thousand Euros. There will be six music nights: the Evergreen opening concerts, the pop night, rock night, the competition finals, the Award Winners’ Gala and the superstar night. Traditionally, the last day of the festival is devoted to traditional Romanian music.
