The new US ambassador to Bucharest, Mark Henry Gitenstein, has been received in audience by the Romanian Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu, to whom he presented his accreditation letters. His nomination as ambassador was announced in June by the US President Barack Obama and confirmed by the US Senate. Mark Gitenstein’s grandparents and parents were born in Romania. His career includes lobby activities with the US Chamber of Commerce, consultancy to the Legal Committee of the Senate and also years of practices as a lawyer.
