International Monetary Fund experts on an assessment visit to Bucharest today proposed at a meeting with the representatives of trade unions in Romania the postponement of the deadline for the adoption of the flat salary bill for public sector employees. Last week, the International Fund Mission said it was willing to agree to a higher public deficit, but with certain limitations. Bucharest wishes an increase of 7.5% of the GDP as compared with the 4.6% established together with the Fund, the European Union and the World Bank in March, in exchange for a 20 billion euro loan.
Romania is a bridge between the Arab and European cultures, said the Romanian minister of culture Theodor Paleologu while visiting the Jordanian Institute of Diplomacy as part of his official trip to Jordan. Paleologu also said that Romania and Jordan share the same goals as far as intercultural and interethnic dialogue are concerned and talked about the possibility of creating a Romanian cultural centre and Romanian library in Amman.
The Romanian football team FC Vaslui is meeting today the Cyopriot team Omnia Nicosia in an away game in the Europa League preliminary round 3. In the first leg, Vaslui beat Nicosia 2-nil. In the Champions League, Romania represented by FC Timisoara, from the west, and the Romanian champion Unirea Urzicenu, from the south, which will go straight in the group stage.
