The Romanian Labour Minister Marian Sarbu has said the number of unemployed people in this country might reach 620,000 by the end of the year. He said Romania, unlike other EU Member States, has large workforce resources in the rural areas. Sarbu said the 6% unemployment rate is on the increase, but the figure is viewed as “good” by his EU counterparts. At the end of last month, Romania had almost 550,000 unemployed people.

President Basescu also said that Romania is developing an equally strong partnership with France within the European Union. According to the Romanian head of state, the two strategic partnerships are two extremely important pillars of Bucharest’s foreign policy.
