The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the majority denomination in this country, is travelling to France to visit the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Seat for Western and Central Europe. The patriarch’s agenda includes consecration masses, meetings with representatives of the Romanian community, and talks with cardinal Andre, the archbishop of Paris. The Romanian patriarch will also attend the General Assembly of European Churches Conference in Lyon. Last month, Daniel went to Austria where he consecrated two new Romanian Orthodox churches and was received by the country’s president Heinz Fischer.
The European Commission will publish the report assessing the progress made by Romania in the justice field on July 22nd – a spokesperson for the community executive announced on Thursday in Brussels. So far experts have made several assessments related to the fight against corruption at central and local levels, the passing of legal codes, the functioning of the Higher Council of the Magistracy and the efficiency of courts. The justice systems of Romania and Bulgaria are being monitored, the two countries risking sanctions unless they comply with the European requirements.
