The Jackson family's seventh-born started his career as an artist performing alongside his brothers in the band Jakcson 5, signed by the famous Motown Records label. He later went solo and found an even more brilliant career. Five of his albums made it among the world's best sellers of all time: “Off the Wall”, “Thriller”, “Bad”, “Dangerous” and “History”. Jackson, however, hasn't released any new singles since 2001.

The King of Pop was among the very few artists to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and also made it to the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful artist of all time. He won 13 Grammys, released 13 top-ranking singles, and sold over 750 million records world-wide.

Romanian fans got the chance to see Michael live in a concert twice, in 1992 and 1996, both times in Bucharest.

His career began to take a downfall in the early 90's, following scandals about his eccentric lifestyle. Jackson was tried and acquitted by an American court of law, after having been accused of paedophilia in 2005.

According to the international press, Michael was undergoing financial difficulties in the past few years, and was close to putting his famous residence, Neverland, up for auction in May 2008.

An oxygen chamber, a chimpanzee as a pet and a ranch are just a few of the oddities that put the final touches to the image of Michael Jackson, and led to him being nicknamed Wacko Jacko. Aside from the numerous hits, still popular with fans world-wide, Michael Jackson leaves behind a mountain of debts and a large number of cancelled concerts, which many said would have saved him financially. Michael was due to go on a comeback tour from July this year to March 2010. 50 concerts were scheduled in London alone, and tickets were sold out just hours after they were put up for sale.
