Romanian filmmakers will participate in the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival as well. The Berlinale is one of the most important film festivals of the world alongside the Cannes and Venice festivals. At the 61st edition of the Berlinale, to take place between February 9th and 19th, Romanian director Radu Jude will participate with a second feature film entitled “Everybody in Our Family”. The film will be screened for the first time in the “Forum” section. It tells, in a humorous note, the sad story of a father and daughter who want to spend together a heavenly vacation, but at present they are caught in the hell of family relations here on earth.

The screenplay, signed by Radu Jude and Corina Sabau, a journalist with Radio Romania International, was presented at several international film festivals. The Italian-French-Romanian co-production “Diaz - Don’t Clean Up This Blood” directed by Daniele Vicari was selected for the “Panorama Dokumente” section. The feature film, produced, among others, by Romanian Bobby Paunescu, and featuring more than 50 Romanian actors and over 6,500 extras, will be screened for the first time at this edition of the festival. The film tells about the violent events of July 2001 that occurred at the G8 summit in Genoa.

Also at this edition of the Berlinale, Romanian Ana Ularu is one of the 10 European actors singled out for the “Shooting stars” program that is organized by the European Film Promotion in cooperation with member organizations among which the Association for the Promotion of Romanian Film. The program, which reached its 15th edition, is meant to promote at international level the most talented European young actors, who can thus meet outstanding personalities of the filmmaking industry, actors, directors, producers and casting managers.

In the “Talent Campus” section of the Berlinale, Romania is represented by two young women directors: Ozana Nicolau and Raluca David, and by well-known actress Ioana Flora. Another Romanian feature film, “Cristian”, directed by Tudor Giurgiu, was selected for the Berlinale Co-Production Market. The film tells the story of a young prosecutor who is investigating a complicated case of corruption. Also as part of the Berlinale Film Market, the Association for the Promotion of Romanian Film and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin, are organizing a Romanian Pavilion with a view to presenting Romanian productions on the international market, to creating the premises for future international co-productions as well as to presenting Romania as a shooting venue to big international studios.
