Last updated: 2011-11-28 13:36 EET |
On Thursday, the city of Jerusalem played host to the first joint meeting of the governments of Romania and Israel, which saw the signing of several agreements. The event is indicative of the two states’ willingness to build a sound partnership. X is reporting.
Romanian workers will be able to find jobs in constructions in Israel more easily, while Israeli investors might help build six regional hospitals in Romania. These are but two of the objectives set forth in Jerusalem during the first Romanian-Israeli inter-governmental meeting. Healthcare, education, labor employment, environmental protection as well as defense, agriculture and tourism are the main fields Romania and Israel hold shared interests in.
On this occasion, the two sides signed a series of bilateral agreements and cooperation protocols in the aforementioned fields, which, according to Romanian PM Emil Boc, show the two countries’ willingness to build a sound partnership. Israeli PM, Benjamin Netanyahu said that by signing those agreements, the two countries took a huge step forward, giving a boost to bilateral relations, which have long been neglected.
The two officials announced Romania and Israel would set up a foundation in the field of research and development, aimed at attracting private funds. Moreover, the two countries will also build a center specialized in modernizing communications infrastructure. Romanian PM Emil Boc:
Emil Boc: “In the field of research and development, we’ve considered the possibility of building a Romanian-Israeli foundation of research and development that would pool together scientific know-how and private funds. Furthermore, it is our intention to make use of expertise in green energy and renewable resources, and we have signed a protocol in that respect. Last but not least, I would mention the field of tourism that has already seen substantial growth, where we hope to further cooperate by means of concrete strategies put forth by the two countries’ relevant ministers”.
The Romanian PM highlighted the important role played by the community of Romanian-born Israelis in boosting Romanian-Israeli relations. In turn, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu underscored the particularly good friendly relations between Romania and Israel. In another move, the Israeli official called for further sanctions to be imposed on Iran, arguing that country’s nuclear programme poses a risk not only to Israel, but to the entire world.
Romanian PM Emil Boc said Romania shared the international community’s concerns over Iran and would respect UN and EU decisions, favoring however a peaceful and diplomatic solution to these problems.
