RRI French Service Wins Journalist Award in Monaco

Valentina Dumitrescu, Andrei Popov and Ileana Taroi “When Romeo meets Juliet”, a radio programme created by Valentina Dumitrescu, Andrei Popov and Ileana Taroi from Radio Romania International’s French Service, won the journalist award for radio granted by the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean foundation as part of an award gala held on Thursday evening in Monaco.

Other finalists were productions of Radio France Internationale and Radio Cairo. 225 productions from countries that are members of the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators took part in the different sections of the competition, now in its 5th year.

“When Romeo meets Juliet” tells the les-known story of the musical “Romeo and Juliet” by Gérard Presgurvic. Performed in both Romanian and Hungarian by the Bucharest and Budapest Operetta Theatres, the show was produced between 2009 and 2011 and discusses Romanian-Hungarian relations 20 years after the political changes of 1989 and the inter-ethnic tensions of March 1990 in Transylvania.
