The goal of these campaigns is to raise the locals' awareness on the contribution made by Romanians to the economic development of the host states. Until the end of the year, the Spanish and Italian media will broadcast video clips, documentaries and reports on the Romanians who live there. Our correspondent in Spain, Anamaria Damian:
“This is a novelty, in several respects. First, it's the first measure the Government of Romania takes in view of changing the image of its citizens in a country hosting a large Romanian community. Secondly, it's the first such campaign implemented by a foreign government in Spain. The video clips will be broadcast in prime time, on major television channels, generally before or after the main news programmes. Newspapers with national coverage will also publish positive messages about the Romanians in Spain.”
A similar campaign, called “Piacere di conoscerti,” was initiated in Italy. It will run in parallel with another programme, aimed at promoting the Romanian culture and customs in the central squares in Rome, Milan and Turin. Our correspondent in Italy, Elena Postelnicu:
“Children's theatre, folk and pop music concerts, a photo exhibition entitled 'People and Places in Romania', pottery-shaping or wool-knitting demonstrations, wood sculpture, folk costumes and the traditional Romanian cuisine. All these will be brought together, starting September 28th, in the campaign called 'Romania Square, one day to meet a nation'.”
