40 years since its setting up, “The Golden Stag” International Music Festival open its doors again in Brasov, southern Romania on Wednesday. 5 Romanian singers along with 25 foreign artists will put their vocal skills to the test. Performing on the stage of the festival, mounted in the Piata Sfatului “Town Hall Square) in downtown Brasov will also be popular Romanian bands like Iris and Directia 5. Other concerts will be given by outstanding Romanian singers such as Angela Similea, Aura Urziceanu, Paula Seling, Nicola, Monica Anghel, Mircea Baniciu, Marcel Pavel and Nico.
10 artists will sing before the public and the jury in the first evening, which will end with a recital given by the Spanish group Los Vivancos. In the following two days, 20 other singers will compete for the “Golden Stag” trophy and concerts will be given by Natalia Rodriguez of Spain, the winner of the 2004 Eurovision song contest Ruslana of Ukraine- and Romanian singers Stefan Banica Jr and Horia Brenciu. The Awards Gala, scheduled for September the 6th will end with a concert given by the Romanian band Irish and the show of the British band Simply Red.
The festival will continue with the musical evenings of Romanian folklore and a traditional music concert given by Damian Draghici and Brothers. Apart from the 10,000 Euro Golden Stag Trophy, the 7,000 Euro Silver Stag and the 5,000 Euro Bronze Stag, the public’s prize and the special prize of the jury will also be awarded. “The Golden Stag” festival was first held in 1968. Along the years, world famous singers performed on its stage like Julio Iglesias, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Joe Cocker, Toto Cutugno, the Scorpions, Patricia Kaas, Ray Charles, Diana Ross and Vaya con Dios.
