May 1st is the international labour day and a day off for many Romanians. So they have decided to use this mini-holiday and spend it at the seaside or in a mountain resort. Just like in the previous years, the Romanian Black Sea Coast has attracted thousands of tourists, also due to favourable weather conditions. The exodus towards the Black Sea Coast started on Friday, when the trains to the port of Constanta were overcrowded. The Black Sea Resorts have registered an 80% occupancy rate.

The “Jurnalul National” daily reads that “the resort of Mamaia is teaming with spoiled brats from well-off families”. In the “Evenimentul Zilei” daily we can read that the Romanians who have chosen Mamaia have taken trips by the cable car and double deckers, like those in London. Another resort crowded at the weekend was Vama Veche, where youngsters from all over the country partied until dawn. “Evenimentul Zilei” also reads that people were dancing and drinking on the Vama Veche beaches, around bonfires that warmed up the pretty cold air of the night.

On the other hand, thousands of Romanians have chosen Albena in Bulgaria, reads the same paper, while “Cronica Romana” headlines “A Bulgarian 1st of May”. Apparently, for Romanians, the traditional May 1st sea bathing is slowly moving to the south, on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, where everything is more comfortable, cleaner and cheaper than in Romania. Those who have not left for the seaside have headed for the mountains. The tourists who chose the resorts in the Prahova Valley have spent their mini-holiday skiing and partying, “Evenimentul Zilei” also reads. It’s true, people have danced and partied around bonfires for three days, just like in the Romanian fairy tales.

Under the headline, “Crowded parks in Bucharest” the daily “Gandul” reads that thousands of Bucharesters enjoyed the good weather strolling or biking in the park, or lake sailing on little boats or pedalos. It was a good opportunity for vendors who displayed their summer offer: plastic toys and sunglasses. And the picture wouldn’t be complete without restaurant terraces full of people drinking beer and eating “mititei” (grilled minced meat). And “Gandul” concludes: the city is a good place to party too, provided you have the means and the right company.
