Thirty-one year old Romanian boxer Lucian Bute has added yet another victory to his record, defending his title of IBF World Champion in the super middlewight category. He defeated Ireland’s Brian Magee by a knockout in round 10 in the match held in Montreal, Canada.
Bute is undefeated as a professional boxer, with 28 victories out of 28 matches, and won the title of world champion in his category on October 19th of 2007, when he defeated Alejandro Berrio of Colombia. Lucian Bute has since defended his title six times. The first two rounds of the match in Montreal saw the two competitors testing each other.
The game became more intense in the third round, allowing the Romanian to dominate the match. In round six, Bute sent Magee to the floor with a punch to the liver, and turned even more agressive over the next rounds. The Romanian boxer ended the match with an uppercut to the chin. After the match, Bute said, quote, „I’m very pleased with this performance and the show we put up. I’m glad that my people were able to see me and I’m glad Romania stood behind me.
I’ve been working on my technique, and that uppercut didn’t come by chance. I was more balanced during the first rounds, letting my arms fly, preparing for that uppercut.” unquote. He also said, quote, „It wasn’t an easy match. Magee is very brave and stubborn. He was aggressive throughout the match, even when taking punches.” unquote. It was the third time in Bute’s career that he faced a left-hand boxer. „I found it a bit difficult to find my rhythm. My performance, however, gave me a lot confidence. I hadn’t faced a left-hand boxer in nearly four years,” Bute explained.
In turn, Brian Magee, supper middleweight European champion, played his first match with an international title at stake. He said Bute was the best boxer he has ever faced. Magee said: „Bute wouldn’t allow me any moves, to the point I became frustrated. He diversified his attacks very well. He punched me in the torso several times, so I figured he would continue with the same, but he caught me off-guard with an uppercut to the chin, putting an end to the match”.
His agent, Pat Magee, shared his opinion, claiming that Bute is the world’s top super middleweight boxer, and will remain so for quite some time. Lucian Bute follows in the footsteps of Romanian world champions and boxing legends Leonard Doroftei and Mihai Leu.
